How to remove stubborn stains from the office carpet

Local Office CleanersOffice carpets face a lot of wear and tear and can quickly end up looking dirty and depressing. Whilst this is hard to avoid with so many people walking over it on a daily basis, you can help to prolong the life of a carpet by attacking stains and much quickly. Whether it’s a split cup of coffee, a carelessly carried bowl of soup or just mud from the walk to the office, if dirt is dealt with quickly you should be able to get the carpet looking nearly as good as new. Here are four simple steps to removing stains and keeping your office looking clean and fresh.

1. Blot the spillage as soon as possible

Dealing with the spillage or stain as soon as it happens will give you the best chance of getting it out, so don’t delay. Using a paper towel or blue roll, blot the area of the spillage to absorb as much of it as possible whilst it’s still wet. Don’t rub the paper towel hard on the floor as it won’t absorb the stain so well and you will also have to deal with clearing up tiny bits of paper too.

2. Find a stain remover

Your office should already have a good selection of cleaning products , but if not you can make a homemade stain remover by mixing 500ml of warm water with a tablespoon of washing up liquid and a tablespoon of vinegar. The washing up liquid dissolves the stain and the vinegar lifts the spilled substance from the carpet fibres.

3. Attack the stain

Apply your cleaning product liberally to the stain so the area is wet and then blot again, starting from the edges and working towards the middle. Once the affected area has been fully blotted, rinse with clean water and then blot that away too. Repeat with cleaning solution and water until the stain has been removed.

4. Dry the carpet

Blot the area as dry as possible with a paper towel and then lay a clean tea towel over it put a weighty object on top to help absorb the rest of the moisture. Leave it there until the area is dry, and your carpet should end up looking as good as new.

If you have a particularly difficult stain, or your whole carpet looks like it could do with a refresh, hiring a commercial cleaner is a good idea. A trained professional will always do a better job than busy office staff and your whole office will look beautiful and bright once again.
